A New Mexico Medicare supplement plan is plan that is generally designed to cover the gaps that Medicare does not cover such as co payments and co insurance. This plan may be referred to as a Medigap plan. The advantage of a New Mexico Medicare supplement plan over a New Mexico Medicare advantage plan is that there are no net works, no referrals, and generally no deductibles or co insurance to worry about. With a Medigap plan in New Mexico you have the freedom to choose any doctor or any hospital you like as long as they accept Original Medicare. Keep in mind when choosing a Medicare supplement plan, all plans are standardized and offer the same coverage. What will vary is the premium. An example would be shopping for the same car and 3 different dealerships. Most likely you will find that same car with three different prices. My job is to shop different insurance carriers in New Mexico to help you find the best rate for your Medicare Supplement plan. The premium you pay may vary by the zip code you live in. The lowest priced Medicare Supplement with one company in Albuquerque, NM may be the highest priced plan in Farmington, NM. To find out what is the best priced Medicare supplement plan where you live and to start the process please call me at 1-800-779-0128.
Every Medicare Supplement insurance policy in New Mexico must follow Federal and state laws designed to protect you and the policy must be clearly identified as Medicare Supplement Insurance. Medigap insurance companies in New Mexico and in most states can only sell you a standardized Medigap policy identified by letters A through N. The most popular plan is Plan F. Generally speaking this plan will cover the 20% that Medicare does not cover. Plan F would be considered to be the Cadillac plan of Medicare supplements. This may not always be the best option or most cost effective for you as other Medicare supplements may offer almost the same coverage at a reduced premium. Typical plans that I recommend are Plan F, G or D. Call 1-800-779-0128 to discuss which plan my be best for you.
Generally, when you buy a Medigap policy you must have Medicare Part A and Part B. You will have to pay the monthly Medicare Part B premium. In addition, you will have to pay a premium to the Medigap insurance company.
